Cabildo uses 'cooperation' against immigration

Several representatives of the Senegalese Government have been in Tenerife invited by the government to establish a framework of cooperation to boost economic relations between the territories as an approach to reducing poverty levels in Africa.

The Finance minister of Senegal, Abdourahim Agne, the Communications and Technology Minister, Sophie Gladima Siby, National solidarity Minister, Fatou Binetou, Agriculture and rural development Minister, Fatou Gaye Sarr, and foreign affairs minister, Al Ousseynou Niang, along with the Spanish Ambassador in Senegal, Abas Ndiour, recently came to spend a week in Tenerife.

They were to discuss tourist management, renewable energies, territorial planning, the exploitation of farming , all strong points which may be exportable to Senegal. The Senegalese voiced to the press their astonishment at Tenerife’s economic resources, and conveyed special interest in the use of renewable energies such as wind after visiting I.T.E.R in Granadilla.
President of the Cabildo, Ricardo Melchior, said: “The European Union does very little to help us with illegal immigration problems, and shows no sensivity in dealing with them, which is why we need to do something forward, cooperating with those countries to decrease the poverty level in Africa”

The Senegalese Finance Minester explained that their economy is based on a fight against poverty and his President’s proposal is to reduce it by 50% by 2015.

Abdourahim Agne announced that at e beginning of December, representives from the Tenerife Cabildo will visit Senegal to sign agreements that have been debated during recent visits to this island. He admitted: “It will be essential for our country, since without energy it is impossible even to speak about development.”
